Tropical depression 鈥楲uis鈥� exits PH, will enhance 鈥榟abagat鈥� — Pagasa
The southwest monsoon or “habagat” will still be enhanced by the exit of tropical depression “Luis” from the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Saturday.
Luis exited the PAR on Friday evening and was last spotted at 595 kilometers north-northwest of extreme northern Luzon as of 3 a.m. of Saturday.
Pagasa said Luis is moving north-northeast at the speed of 8 kilometers per hour (kph). Luis has maximum sustained winds of 45 kph and gustiness of 70 kph.
Pagasa said that even with the exit of Luis, the tropical depression will still enhance the southwest monsoon and will dump monsoon rains over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, Babuyan Group of Islands, Zambales and Bataan provinces.
The state weather bureau warned the residents in the said areas to be ready for possible flooding and landslides due to scattered moderate to heavy rains.
Article continues after this advertisementMeanwhile, Metro Manila, the rest of Central Luzon and of Cagayan Valley Region, Calabarzon, and Mindoro will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms also caused by the southwest monsoon.
The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers, Pagasa added.
The weather agency also reported a low pressure area at 910 kms northeast of Basco, Batanes, that is likely to intensity to a tropical depression within the next two days. /muf
