Typhoon “Paeng” (international name “Trami”) weakened slightly as it continued to move on a snail’s pace, the weather bureau said on Wednesday.

The typhoon packed maximum sustained winds of 170 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 210 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

As of 4 a.m., Paeng was spotted 725 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes, moving northward. Forecasts said it was heading towards the Ryuku Islands in Japan.

Fair weather is seen across the country as Paeng is too far to affect the country even if it is within the Philippine area of responsibility. /cbb
