Customs donates ‘seized goods’ for ‘Ompong’ victims

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) distributed seized goods to victims of Typhoon “Ompong” (international name: Mangkhut), the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on Tuesday.

DSWD Secretary Virginia Orogo and DSWD Undersecretary for Disaster Response Management Hope Hervilla received two containers of 130 bales of used clothes and 32 boxes of new shoes and five bales of new t-shirts from Customs Chief Isidro Lapeña.

Orogo acknowledged the donations received from BOC, noting that the DSWD regional offices will distribute the goods to the victims.

“We are very thankful for the donations for the victims of Typhoon Ompong and other calamities. We have directed all our regional offices that upon arrival of the donations, they will go directly to the beneficiaries to distribute these,” Orogo said.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC), almost 600,000 people were affected by the onslaught of Ompong. /je
