Warning signals may be up by Sunday evening as ‘Rosita’ draws nearer

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 may be raised over Metro Manila by Monday evening as Typhoon “Rosita,” internationally known as “Yutu,” drew closer to Luzon, according to a bulletin issued at 11 p.m. on Saturday by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

By Sunday evening, warning signals may also be raised over the eastern section of Northern and Central Luzon, where moderate to heavy rains are expected to start on Monday.

Strong to very strong winds are expected to affect the eastern section of Northern and Central Luzon starting Tuesday morning.

Sea travel is risky over the northern and eastern seaboard of Luzon and the seaboard of Samar provinces.

The typhoon is expected to make landfall over the Cagayan-Isabela area by Tuesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, as of 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, the eye of the typhoon was located at 1,065 km east of Aparri, Cagayan.

It was moving west at 20 kph, with maximum sustained winds of 200 kph near the center and a gustiness of up to 245 kph. /atm
