Pagasa lowers warning signals as ‘Rosita’ weakens into a storm

Tropical cyclone warning signals were lowered in Luzon as “Rosita,” internationally known as “Yutu,” moved out of landmass on Tuesday night, according to the bulletin issued at 11:00 p.m. by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Administration (Pagasa).

With “Rosita” downgraded to a tropical storm, only Signal No. 1 remained hoisted over five Norther Luzon provinces — Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Benguet, Zambales and Pangasinan.

But the western section of Northern and Central Luzon are still expected to have moderate to heavy rains, which could cause flooding and landslides.

As of 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, the center of the storm was estimated to be at 195 km west-northwest of Dagupan City, Pangasinan.

It was moving west at 25 kph, blowing maximum sustained winds of 110 kph near the center, with a gustiness reaching up to 135 kph.

The storm is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsbility on Wednesday, sometime between late afternoon and evening. /atm
