‘Hydrotesting’ and flushing at Makati gas station continues after fuel leak

The Bureau of Fire Revenue (BFP) on Saturday continued with its “hydrotesting” and flushing at a gas station in Barangay Bangkal, Makati City following the reported fuel leak on Thursday.

Makati Police chief Rogelio Simon said Evangelista Street where the affected Phoenix Petroleum gas station is located, remains closed.

Simon added that based on reports from the ground, the diesel odor in the area is now almost gone.

According to Simon, the Makati Police has asked the Phoenix Petroleum management to monitor areas adjacent to the affected gas station after fuel odor was detected.

“(We have) Asked them to monitor also (the) Lucban Street area kasi baka doon naman may deposits. Kasi may odor din dun,” Simon told reporters over the weekend.

According to the Makati Police, all fuel products have been siphoned from the affected gas station as of 4 a.m. of Friday.

Meanwhile Simon said another “hydrotesting” will be done on Sunday by a third party contracted by the management of Phoenix Petroleum. “Hydrotesting” a process that removes fuel from its underground storage tanks and replaces it with water to determine if the tanks have leakage, without the danger of gas explosion

The second “hydrotesting” aims to compare results with the “hydrotesting” done by the BFP on Friday.  /muf
