PNP to enforce stricter policy on police chiefs supervising erring cops

Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Oscar Albayalde on Thursday said they would implement stricter policies for police chiefs who failed to supervise erring policemen.

In a press briefing, Albayalde said it will be a 鈥渙ne-strike policy.鈥 The police chief will have 鈥渋mmediate relief鈥 if their policemen would commit serious criminal cases.

鈥淭here will be no second chance dito kasi ginawa na namin lahat. We gave them memorandum napakarami na paulit ulit. Reminders na paulit ulit,鈥 Albayalde said. 鈥淎nd yet 鈥榙i nila masupervise mga tao nila.鈥

(There will be no second chance here because we鈥檝e done everything. We鈥檝e issued memoranda and reminders repeatedly.)

Albayalde was reacting to some of the controversies in the PNP that hogged headlines recently such as the 鈥減alit-puri鈥 (sex-for-freedom) scheme.

Albayalde also said he 鈥渄oes not see any reason鈥 why some chiefs of police could not supervise their men, noting that they handle around 50 to 100 personnel.

He then said these efforts show that the PNP would not allow such incidents to happen.

鈥淜ahit na iisang incident yan di natin pwedeng palampasin it will never be a culture in the PNP yung mga ganyang gawain,鈥 he said.

(Even if it is just a one-time incident, we are not going to tolerate it. This will never be part of the culture in the PNP). /ee
