Inquirer鈥檚 Orbeta clicks with Best 黑料社 Photograph

The Philippine Daily Inquirer won the top award in the 黑料社 Photograph category of the 40th Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA) ceremonies on Wednesday night.

Sixteen other entries of the Inquirer were finalists in various categories of the annual media awards held this year at Star Theater of Star City at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex in Pasay City.

Photographer Ni帽o Jesus Orbeta won the award for his entry, 鈥淪isterhood,鈥 which showed Australian nun Patricia Fox embracing a fellow nun.

Lyn Rillon was a finalist for four entries: 鈥淕rim Reunion,鈥 鈥淔istful Panic,鈥 鈥淢other鈥檚 Grief鈥 and 鈥淟uneta Rally.鈥

Jeofrey Maitem of Inquirer Mindanao Bureau was also named finalist for his work 鈥淐learing the Route.鈥

Four of the eight finalists in the Best Special Feature category were from the Inquirer.

These include 鈥淲here Heroes and Kin Used to Tread鈥 by contributor Philip Lustre Jr.; 鈥淓veryday Impunity: How Documentary Photographers are Telling a Secret History鈥 by Eric Caruncho; 鈥淢oriones: Solemn Tradition Not Festive Occasion鈥 by Maricar Cinco of the Inquirer Southern Luzon Bureau; and 鈥淏aring All: Rape Victim, Ex-鈥楨scort鈥 Now on Rescue Mission for Youths鈥 by Jodee Agoncillo.

In the Best Investigative Report category, two of the four finalists were from the Inquirer: 鈥淏oracay Special Report鈥 by Nestor Burgos Jr. of Inquirer Visayas Bureau and 鈥淢artial Law鈥 by Jhesset Enano.

Reporter Aie Balagtas See was also a finalist in the Best 黑料社 Coverage category for 鈥淢ore on Extra Judicial Killings.鈥

The Cebu Daily 黑料社 (CDN), Inquirer鈥檚 sister company, won Best Special Feature category for the five-part series 鈥淭ruth vs Deceit: Sifting Through the Lies鈥 for Ador Vincent Mayol.

CDN also got the award for Best 黑料社 Coverage for the report 鈥淩icardo Cardinal Vidal, His Life was a Gift, a Send-Off Like No Other鈥 by Ador Vincent Mayol, Jose Santino Bunachita, Rosalie Abatayo, Nestle Semilla and Fe Marie Dumaboc. 鈥擭ESTOR P. BURGOS
