SOME food stalls or parts of these stalls along Zamora, Legaspi and D. Jakosalem Streets in Cebu City will be demolished so that the stall vendors will follow the imposed stall dimensions.
Cebu City鈥檚 Squatters Prevention, Elimination and Encroachment Division (Speed) yesterday, however, only managed to demolish some structures which encroached on the sidewalk along Legaspi Street.
The Garbo Asenso Sumbanan Alyansa (GASA) headed by Dr. Lucelle Mercado and Gerry Marquez tapped the SPEED鈥檚 assistance to impose these stall dimensions of 2脳3 meters for food stalls along these streets.
SPEED, however, wasn鈥檛 able to demolish the food stalls along Zamora Street after Barangay Santo Nino captain Pancho Ramirez Sr. stopped them.
Ramirez said that these stalls had just been renovated and beautified.
Zamora Street is the access road from Basilica Del Sto Ninio to the Metropolitan Cathedral.
鈥淜atong聽 mga vendors nga ilang gipapahawa, ibalhin kuno nila diri. Dili na pwede, mubabag gyud mi (Those vendors whose stalls they demolished (in Jakosalem) they鈥檒l transfer here. We wouldn鈥檛 allow that),鈥 Ramirez said.
Marquez, who accompanied SPEED said they had no choice but to heed Ramirez鈥檚 plea to stop but he promised to come back and implement the demolition of the stalls today. Correspondent Edison Delos Angeles
