MANILA, Philippines 鈥 The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has collected more than 113 metric tons of garbage from the 1.9 kilometer stretch of Manila Bay along Roxas Boulevard in Manila during its month long clean-up drive.

MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim on Friday said the tons of solid wastes were picked up from November 3-December 3 as part of the agency鈥檚 43rd anniversary celebration. The 1.9-kilometer stretch covers the location of US Embassy in Manila up to Manila Yacht Club.

In carrying out the clean-up drive, the MMDA aims to step up efforts to elevate awareness on environmental conservation.

鈥淣gayon, hindi na gaano kadami 鈥榶ung solid waste dito,鈥 Lim said in a press conference.

鈥淎ng arrangement nalang natin with the local government of Manila ay magtalaga sila ng 30 na personnel na araw-araw ay nakatutok para bantayan, para ma-maintain itong kalinisan ng buong stretch na ito,鈥 he added.

With the success of the clean-up drive, Lim said MMDA is eyeing to carry out similar campaign in some areas of Pasay and Para帽aque. /kga
