MANILA, Philippines —President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday ordered law enforcers to refrain from drinking in public places, saying that drunk law enforcers tend to be involved in trouble.

“Kayong mga pulis (policemen), I’m warning you, do not drink in public. Sa Davao pinagbawalan ko ‘yan (I banned that in Davao), ngayon (now) all over the Philippines. Do not enter into drinking places,” Duterte said in a speech during the Barangay Summit on Peace and Order at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.

The President said the military will also be banned from entering drinking places as law enforcers who are drunk may harm each other during drinking sessions.

“Kasi wala kayong ibang gawin pag lasing na, pati army, wag kayong magdala ng baril. Kasi itong army pati pulis isa rin itong mag-agawan ng microphone…’pag lasing na, magbarilan na ang mga gago,” he said.

The President issued the order after he claimed that he beat up on Monday a soldier and a police officer for shooting each other.

Recently, Duterte also ordered police officers to stay out of casinos, singling out Okada Manila in Parañaque City, which he described as a place “crawling with usurers and kidnappers.” /ee
