AfterÌý informingÌý the SenateÌý that itÌý receivedÌý the billÌý from the House,Ìý SenateÌý Majority LeaderÌý Juan MiguelÌý ZubiriÌý moved Ìý to reconsiderÌý theÌý upper chamber’s earlier approval Ìý ofÌý the previous Ìý version Ìý of the measure.

On SeptemberÌý12, 2018,Ìý the SenateÌý adoptedÌý the first versionÌý ofÌý the bill approved by the House.

But the House later recalled its approval.

When no senatorÌýobjectedÌý toÌý his motion, ZubiriÌýproceeded with a new motion, thisÌý time, for the adoptionÌý of the new version of Ìý HB 7436.

No senators alsoÌý objectedÌý toÌý Zubiri’s second motion.

With the Senate’s adoption of the new bill, Ìý there is no longer need for the two chambers to meet in the bicameral conference committee.

ZubiriÌý said theÌý measure will be sentÌý to President Rodrigo DuterteÌý for signature hopefully by next week or at the latest, first week of February.
Aside from the abolition of the board,Ìý the newÌý bill provides that all monies collected Ìý from the road user’s tax will be remitted to the National Treasury under a special account in the General Fund.
The Ìý fund,Ìý under the bill, would be earmarked solely for the construction, upgrading, repair, and rehabilitationÌý of roads, bridges and road drainageÌý to included in the annual General Appropriations Act.Ìý/ gsg
