A measure institutionalizing state intervention in curbing hunger and poverty moved a step closer to becoming law after the Senate on Tuesday approved it on third and final reading.
Authored by detained Sen. Leila de Lima, Senate Bill No. 2121, or the proposed Magna Carta of the Poor, was aimed at mandating the government to make it a state policy to 鈥渦plift the standard of living and quality of life of the poor.鈥
The bill also seeks to ensure the government鈥檚 compliance with international treaties 鈥渢o end poverty in all its forms鈥 and to 鈥渆nsure and promote the health and well-being of all.鈥 鈥擬arlon Ramos
