PH, Japan draw nearer P1.4-B grant for Bangsamoro, railway

Philippine and Japanese officials exchanged notes on three non-project grant aids worth P1.4 bilion on the sidelines of the 7th Meeting of the Philippines-Japan Joint Committee on Infrastructure Development and Economic Cooperation held on Thursday in Osaka.

The Department of Foreign Affairs, in a statement, said Philippine Ambassador Jose C. Laurel V and Japanese Ambassador Koji Haneda exchanged notes on Japanese government assistance for three socioeconomic development projects: two for Bangsamoro and one for the expansion of the Philippines’ railway system.

The Philippines and Japan hoped aid for Bangsamoro would help sustain peace and development in the area following the success of peace talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. —Jerome Aning
