Cop slain in Samar
ORMOC CITY — A former intelligence operative of the Samar police was killed while a policewoman was wounded in an ambush on Monday morning in Barangay Malatogawe, Motiong town, Samar.
Killed was Police Sergeant Glenn Meniano, an operative of the Samar Province Police Office.
Police Lt. Col Bella Rentuaya, Police Regional Office-Eastern Visayas spokesperson, said Patrolwoman Jane Abejar was hurt in the ambush believed to be perpetrated by members of the New People’s Army.
The two policemen were on their way back to Motiong police station after fetching water in Paranas town when a group of armed men fired at them near the town’s cockpit arena along the national highway about 7 a.m.
While the two policemen were able to jump off their Mahindra patrol car, Meniano was badly hit and died on the rice field beside the highway.
Abejar was able to escape and reported the incident to the police station.
When the responding policemen arrived in the area, they saw the patrol car on fire.
