Drugs give Awol policeman away
Seven years after PO2 Alejandro Gacayan Hernandez went Awol or absent without leave, he finally found himself back at a police station—only this time, he was being arrested on alleged drug charges.
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) presented Hernandez at the Southern Police District headquarters in Bicutan, Taguig City on Thursday after it arrested him and a cohort at Barangay Alamanza Uno, Las Piñas City, around 4 a.m.
Routine inspection
Policemen chanced upon Hernandez after the motorcycle he and his companion, Rey Binggal Servito, were riding on, was flagged down at a checkpoint for a routine inspection.
Director Guillermo Eleazar, NCRPO chief, said that during the inspection, police officers uncovered contraband, including three heat-sealed plastic sachets believed to contain “shabu” (crystal meth), a weighing scale and a knife.
The 36-year-old Hernandez will be charged with violating Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, in addition to Batasang Pambansa 6 which relates to the possession of bladed weapons.
Article continues after this advertisementThe former Manila policeman had been Awol since 2012. Eleazar told the Inquirer that a separate drug case and another charge of illegal possession of explosives had been filed against Hernandez who was detained from June 26 to Dec. 27, 2017.
However, he was acquitted by the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 54 last year.
