LUCENA CITY, Philippines – A barangay tanod (village watchman) was shot and killed by a still unidentified gunman in Sariaya town in Quezon province Saturday, police said.

Police report said Jaison Laresma, 38, was repeatedly shot while he was playing basketball in Barangay (village) Castañas around 6 p.m.

The victim died while being taken to the Lucena United Doctors Hospital in Lucena City.

Police recovered five empty shells from a caliber .45 pistol at the crime scene.

Citing information from the village, investigators described the victim as a “kind person”.

Police said the investigators are still looking at all possible angles to unmask the killer. /cbb
