MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said it would strictly implement a new local ordinance regulating the use of electronic cigarettes, or e-cigarettes, in public spaces.
Brig. Gen. Joselito Esquivel Jr., QCPD director, also called on the public to comply with the new ordinance and encouraged business establishments to follow guidelines.
Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista signed last week City Ordinance No. 2737-2018, which seeks to penalize e-cigarette use, or “vaping,” in places of worship, hospitals or other health care centers, public conveyances, government offices, and educational or recreational facilities intended for minors.
The new ordinance bans advertisements and promotions of e-cigarettes.
Violators will be fined P500 to P1,000 for the first offense, P1,000 to P2,500 for second offense and P2,500 to P5,000 for third offense, including cancellation and revocation of business permits and license to operate. —Mariejo S. Ramos
