Selena Schulz, a thirteen-year-old author from Florida, United States, first started writing books when she saw animals that did not have beds to sleep in at the shelter.

The moving sight paved the way for her to write her first book, 鈥淐ici鈥檚 Amazing Birthday鈥, which is about dogs and adoption, as per Fox13 on May 6. Today, she has completed the books in her series and donated part of her books鈥 proceeds to various animal shelters, some even in Canada.聽

鈥淚鈥檝e always loved animals. I think they all deserve a fair chance in life,鈥 Schulz said in the report. 鈥淓ven if they鈥檙e at the shelter waiting for a forever home, I want to make that transition as comfortable as possible for them.鈥

The books are based on her real-life experiences and were self-published, thanks to the help of her parents. Thus far, Schulz has donated more than $5,000 (almost P260,000), proving that one is never too young to make a change.

鈥淚 love seeing the smiles on the shelter coordinators鈥 and volunteers鈥 faces, because I know I鈥檓 actually making a difference,鈥 she said. 鈥淭he books were my idea, in order to incorporate my hobby of reading into showing other kids they can do the same thing and help the shelters as well.鈥澛

Presently, she is working on another book, 鈥淎 Bed a Buck a Buddy鈥 in an effort to encourage peers to donate and volunteer to animal shelters. Cody Cepeda/JB
