SAN PEDRO CITY — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is working double time to reconfigure or replace around 60 SD (Secure Digital) cards for the vote-counting machines (VCM) delivered to Calabarzon for Monday’s elections.

The SD cards contain the data on the ballots fed into the VCMs.

“Last night, there were around 60 (SD cards) across the region,” said Comelec regional chief Gloria Petalio, in a phone interview Saturday.

She said the cards were found “not to be working … but our regional technical hub is now fixing (the problem).”

FEATURED STORIES

Calabarzon is the most vote-rich region in the country, with 8,674,351 registered voters for 2019.

In Cavite, election officer Anulfo Pioquinto said there still seemed to be a problem with around “five percent” of the province’s total number of polling precincts.

“There are still a few where the FTS fails,” he said in a separate text message. The FTS or the final testing and sealing is an end-to-end test of the VCMs from initializing the machine, to voting, feeding of the accomplished ballots, to the printing of election returns.

Petalio assured the public that all voting machines would work before election day. (EditorLeti Z. Boniol)
