MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage Services Regulatory Office (MWSS-RO) has put Maynilad Water Services Inc. on notice for failing its obligations to customers.

Chief Regulator Patrick Ty said Tuesday that it sent a letter to Maynilad last April 30 to call its attention to complaints of water consumers.  However, Maynilad’s customers were still experiencing low water pressure and service interruptions 15 days since the letter was sent.

“It is for this reason that we have given MWSI five days upon receipt of said notice to issue an explanation as to why they should not be penalized under Article 10.4 of the CA (Concession Agreement),” Ty said in a press briefing.

“If found liable, we will recommend to the MWSS Board of Trustees that fines and penalties be imposed to MWSI,” he added. (Editor: Cenon B. Bibe Jr.)
