LOOK: Newly elected senators attend proclamation at PICC

MANILA, Philippines — The long wait is over, with good results, for 12 senatorial candidates who made a bid for the Senate.

One by one they arrived at the Philippine International Convention Center on Wednesday morning where they were officially proclaimed as senators.

Reelected senator Cynthia Villar, who topped the senatorial race after receiving more than 25 million votes, arrived with her husband, former senator Manny Villar, and their children.

Wearing her signature white color, Grace Poe also arrived at the PICC with her actress mother Susan Roces, husband Neil Llamanzares, and son Bryan.

Former Special Assistant to the President Bong Go and former Philippine National Police chief Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, who are proclaimed senators for the first time, were also present during the event.

Their fellow neophyte senators, outgoing Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos; and former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chairman and Presidential Legal Adviser Francis Tolentino, also brought their families with them for the proclamation.

Reelected Senators Sonny Angara and Koko Pimentel were among the five reelected senators this elections. The three other being Senators Villar, Poe, and Nancy Binay. Angara and Pimentel placed 6th and 10th, respectively, in the senatorial race.

Senators Lito Lapid and Bong Revilla, meanwhile, were successful in their attempts to make a Senate comeback.

Returning senator Pia Cayetano and reelected Senator Nancy Binay were not able to take photos at the red carpet of the senatorial proclamation.

The Marcoses — former First Lady Imelda Marcos and former senator Bongbong Marcos — were also present in the event to show their support towards Imee.
