Consumers have experienced a general increase in the costs of goods and services for the past years. The Philippine Daily Inquirer has tried to hold off an increase in its cover price; its last increase was 15 years ago even while its competitors had earlier raised their respective prices.
But the increase in world newsprint prices and in transportation costs and the depreciation of the peso have affected the general cost of production. Starting June 1, therefore, the Inquirer will raise its cover price from P18 to P20 for the Monday to Saturday issues. The Sunday issue will remain at P20.
Part of the proceeds of the increase in the newspaper鈥檚 cover price will be shared with its dealers in the form of increased support, in keeping with the Inquirer鈥檚 advocacy of helping alleviate the difficulties of its stakeholders.
For the past 26 years, its readers have also contributed to the cause and helped send newsboys or their nominees to school because each copy sold benefits the Inquirer 黑料社boy Fund.
