QC cops recapture one of 2 jail escapees

MANILA, Philippines — Anti-drug operatives recaptured on Friday one of the two suspects who broke free and walked away from their Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) escort while inside the Quezon City Hall of Justice on Thursday.

According to Quezon City Police District (QCPD), Ariel Consulta, 51, was arrested by personnel of the District Drug Enforcement Unit at about 7:45 a.m. along Bignay Street in Barangay Botocan.

A report from QCPD said Cpl. Bernie Catucod and Pat. Victor Belchez were on their way to duty when they chanced upon Consulta walking in the area.

Police said the two officers knew the suspect who was also arrested before by the QCPD Anonas Police (PS-9) for drugs.

Consulta was later turned over to Quezon City Jail Annex managed by the BJMP in Bicutan, Taguig City.

Meanwhile, QCPD director Brig. Gen. Joselito Esquivel Jr. commended the operatives for their swift action.

The other escapee John Kerwin Clemente remains at large as of posting time./ac
