Sara Duterte vows to end insurgency in Davao City in 2020

DAVAO CITY –– Reelected Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio of this city on Friday, June 21, disclosed that her administration aimed for a “100 percent” end of the insurgency in Davao City by 2020.

Speaking following her oathtaking ceremony here, Duterte-Carpio also vowed to reduce the 7.8-percent poverty incidence recorded in the city in 2018.

Duterte-Carpio took her oath of office before Davao Regional Trial Court Judge Jil Jauganlo at the Sangguniang Panlungsod building here shortly before noon on Friday.

“The past three years saw an accelerated economic boom in the Davao region, becoming the second performing region in the country in terms of gross regional domestic product,” she noted in her speech.

With Davao registering an economic growth of 8.6 percent in 2018, she promised to continue the programs that were the catalyst for further growth and to see to it that they could provide a business climate that is fitting to the needs of both investors and workers.

“In 2016, we launched Byaheng Du30, an umbrella program that we encouraged everyone to join us in our journey as we navigated through 10 priority programs focusing on at least 30 major projects,” the presidential daughter said.

“We are grateful to our partners from the private sector and from the international community for helping us achieve the goals,” she added.

Duterte-Carpio said that with a fresh term of another three years, which would begin in July this year, “much more is yet to be done.”  (Editor: Leti Z. Boniol)
