Rizal police chief axed for death of 3-year-old girl in anti-drug ops

MANILA, Philippines —  Police Col. Lou Evangelista, director of the Rizal Provincial Police Office (PPO), was relieved after a minor was killed in a crossfire between drug suspects and police officers in Rodriguez, Rizal.

Brig. Gen. Edward Carranza, Calabarzon regional police director, said Col. Renato Alba was designated as officer-in-charge of the Rizal PPO on July 15 (Monday) to replace Evangelista.

Alba was formerly assigned as chief of regional logistics and research development division of Calabarzon police.

Evangelista was relieved from his post for his failure to supervise his police officers who were involved in the death of Mica Ulpina.

“This incident was very unfortunate, and we extend our deepest sympathy to the family of Mica Ulpina, but we assure the public that no stone will be left unturned until we get to the bottom of this,” Carranza said in a statement on Wednesday. /jpv
