MANILA, Philippines — It looks like the popularity of Mayor Isko Moreno has gone beyond the administrative boundary of Manila.

In a Facebook post, a netizen from Calamba City has appealed for help from Moreno over a flooded pedestrian overpass at a major intersection in Calamba City.

“Mayor , baka matutulungan nyo po kami dito sa Calamba.. Nagbabaha po kasi sa overpass sa Calamba Crossing, nahihirapan po ang mga tao,” the netizen, who requested anonymity, wrote in the caption of a viral picture he reposted on Facebook.

The photo shows pedestrians wading through ankle-deep water as they cross the footbridge while at least three men can be seen climbing the railings to avoid getting wet.

Tinged with sarcasm, the Calambeño said he made the plea for help because the mayor of Calamba City, Justin Marc Chipeco, could be too busy to attend to the needs of his constituents.

“Baka po kasi busy mayor namin, baka po kayo may extra time pa para matulungan kami dito sa Calamba City,” he told Moreno in the post hashtagged .

Floi Villaruel Clutario, whose Facebook name is Shin Yna Mische, told ºÚÁÏÉç she took the photograph during a downpour in Calamba City Thursday afternoon.

Chipeco, in a text message, said the footbridge was built by a private donor.

“There are no public funds used in its construction,” he said.

“We are fortunate that they built such structures for the city,” Chipeco told ºÚÁÏÉç, adding the donor still maintains the bridge.

Less than a month since he assumed office,  Moreno hogged the headlines for his hands-on drive to clean up Manila, weed out corruption, and provide employment opportunities for marginalized Manilans, especially the senior citizens and persons with disability. /ac
