MANILA, Philippines—Armed men believed to be New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas laid siege to a police station in Legazpi City, Albay province, according to police on Monday (Aug. 19).

Lt. Col. Wilson Asueta, police director of Albay police, told ºÚÁÏÉç that the suspected guerrillas used assault rifles similar to those being used by government soldiers, M-16 Armalite, and also an M-203 grenade launcher during the attack on a small police station at the village of Taysan around 8 p.m. on Sunday (Aug. 18).

Police said the attackers were repelled after a five-to-seven minute gunfight. No casualties or injuries were reported. /TSB
