6-year-old boy saves teacher who fell and sustained cracked skull

A 6-year-old boy became an unexpected hero after calling for help when his teacher went unconscious due to a fall and hitting her head on a desk, last Thursday, Aug. 22.

Joyce Darr was serving as a substitute teacher at Frostproof Elementary School in Florida, United States when the incident happened, as per Polk County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook post last Friday, Aug. 30.

A child from the class she was teaching bumped into her, which led her to fall and hit her head on a desk. The impact from the fall had rendered her unconscious.

The boy, Max Aguilar, immediately ran out of the classroom and looked for someone to help Darr. Thanks to Max’s quick thinking, the teacher was brought to a hospital.

The police office revealed in an update yesterday, Sept. 4, that Darr “was on life support for 12 days with a cracked skull and bleeding on her brain.”

Max was reunited with the teacher after Derek, Darr’s son, had arranged for Max and his mother, Monica to visit them at the Lakeland Regional Medical Center. As a gesture of gratitude, Derek gave the 6-year-old a brand new pair of shoes.

“He saved my mother’s life. He’s the real MVP!!” Derek said.

“He will always be a hero and family in my eyes!” he stated. “Mom is very weak but is alive and getting stronger everyday.”

The police office also awarded Max with a new bike and a good citizenship award on Aug. 30 for “seeing something, and saying something, especially during such a scary time.” JB
