Rights activist reported missing in Quezon

LUCENA CITY, Quezon, Philippines — A 23-year-old rights activist and former campus journalist in Quezon province has been missing since Saturday, rights group Karapatan announced Sunday.

Alexandrea Pacalda was last seen in Barangay Magsaysay in General Luna town, according to the Quezon chapter of Karapatan. She has not contacted anyone since then.

“Unverified information suggests that she was brought to a military camp in Barangay San Miguel Dao, Lopez, Quezon, but as of today, there is no verified information regarding her whereabouts,” the group said in a statement.

The Inquirer sought comment from Lt. Colonel. Dennis Cana, public information officer of the Southern Luzon Command based here in Camp Nakar. He has not replied as of this writing.

According to Karapatan, Pacalda was managing editor of The Luzonian, the official student publication of Manuel S. Enverga University in Lucena.

She was also an active member of the College Editors Guild of the Philippines and Gabriela-Youth.
