WATCH: Over 15,000 join coastal cleanup on Baseco Beach
MANILA, Philippines — Around 15,000 people participated in a massive cleanup on Baseco Beach in Tondo, Manila on Saturday as the country joined the International Coastal Cleanup Day, a global drive to protect the ocean and its inhabitants.
The Manila Public Information Office shared a video of the cleanup drive, spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. Manila Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna and Manila Department of Public Services chief Kenenth Amurao participated in the activity.

Officials from the Manila Barangay Bureau, Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau also helped pick up wastes.
More than 200 members of Metropolitan Manila Development Authority were also deployed to participate in the volunteer program, MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim said in a statement.
The ICC is the largest volunteer effort to preserve the ocean’s health. People around the world must help in removing trash and record information on the collected waste on resorts, beaches, coasts and waterways.
