MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs seized Tuesday two containers of misdeclared stainless angle bars from China.

BOC Intelligence Group (BOC-IG) Deputy Commissioner Raniel T. Ramiro said the containers, which arrived last Oct.19 at the Port of Manila, were declared as flat bars and steel sheets by its consignee, Liuzhiga International Trading.

The Intelligence Group-Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (IG-CIIS) then received a report from a source on Oct. 22 regarding the misdeclaration of the shipment.

On inspection, the shipment turned out to be stainless angle bars and steel sheets instead of the items declared by the consignee.

FEATURED STORIES

A Warrant of Seizure and Detention (WSD) will be released against the shipment for violation of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) as the authorities conduct an investigation in preparation for the filing of charges against those involved in smuggling the items.
