Soil erosion forces evacuation of 9 families in Cagayan province

TUGUEGARAO CITY — Nine families or 38 individuals were evacuated to safer areas after heavy rains triggered a soil erosion in a village in Baggao town, Cagayan province since Saturday.

Baggao Mayor Joan Dunuan has said they carried out the preemptive evacuation to ensure the safety of villagers living near the danger zone at Barangay Asassi.

The evacuees temporarily stayed at the Masisit Elementary School.

The eroded area will be repaired using a P2-million fund from the Department of Public Works and Highways, Dunuan said.
