TS Sarah keeps strength; TD Ramon now just an LPA
MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Storm Sarah has maintained its intensity on its track near Tuguegarao City while Tropical Depression Ramon has diminished into a low-pressure area (LPA) by Wednesday afternoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported.
As of 4 p.m., Pagasa said Sarah was some 540 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, moving north-northwest at 30 kilometers per hour and packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.
Pagasa kept its Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over Batanes and the northern portion of Cagayan including the Babuyan Islands.
Due to Sarah, light to moderate with occasional heavy rains can be expected over Batanes, Cagayan including the Babuyan Islands, Apayao, and the northern portion of Ilocos Norte.
Likewise, light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains may be experienced over Ilocos Sur, Abra, Kalinga, Mt. Province, Ifugao, Isabela, La Union, Benguet, and the rest of Ilocos Norte.
Meanwhile, Ramon has weakened into an LPA at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday.
Pagasa said Ramon was last spotted in the vicinity of Carranglan, Nueva Ecija.
According to Pagasa, while tropical cyclone wind signals raised due to Ramon have been lifted, strong to gale force winds will still prevail over Batanes and the Babuyan Islands. Some appropriate precaution is advised.
