MANILA, Philippines — A man wanted for carnapping just put himself in deeper trouble after he passed himself off as a policeman carrying an unlicensed gun when agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested him in his house in Parañaque City.

In a statement on Friday, NBI Director Dante Gierran said suspect Jay-Ar Fortuno Lim was arrested by agents of the NBI-National Capital Region on Tuesday.

The arrest came after NBI agents found that Lim had an outstanding arrest warrant for a carnapping case. Upon arriving at Lim’s house, the agents noticed that the suspect was packing a firearm in his waist without a permit to carry.

FEATURED STORIES

Lim also introduced himself as an agent of PNP-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group during the arrest. But after further confirmation from the PNP,  the NBI discovered that the suspect was not a policeman nor a personnel of any unit at the PNP.

Aside from the carnapping case, Lim is now facing charges for illegal possession of firearms and usurpation of authority, or the violation of Section 31 of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and Usurpation of Authority under Article 177 of the Revised Penal Code.
