COVID-19 halts Bataan-Manila ferry trips
MARIVELES, Bataan–The operation of a ferry boat plying the Manila-Bataan route has been suspended following the declaration of President Rodrigo Duterte of a community quarantine in Metro Manila.
Joseph Loyola, administrative head of 1Bataan Integrated Transport System, said regular trips starting Saturday (March 14) will be temporarily stopped as precaution against the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19.
The sea transport system ferries passengers from Mariveles, Limay, Orion, Pilar and Balanga City in Bataan to the Mall of Asia in Pasay.
Loyola said the ferry operation may resume in the second week of April.
The ferry boat can carry 150 to 200 passengers per trip. It makes three rounds of trips per day. About 40 percent of its passengers are employees of the Freeport Area of Bataan.
