Sorsogon gov’t to give away 60,700 ‘balut’ to help producer, frontline workers

/ 08:23 PM March 24, 2020

LEGAZPI CITY—Health workers on the frontline of the fight against COVID-19 at villages, in checkpoints and offices in the province of Sorsogon would be given ‘balut’, or eggs with whole unborn ducks immersed in placenta, for snacks.

Salvador Mendoza, information officer of the province, said at least 60,700 balut would be distributed this week to employees in hospitals and health offices, stranded passengers, authorities at checkpoints and officials in 541 villages.

He said the supplies were bought from a balut producer in Gubat town.

“We bought these to help the local producer since he cannot go out to sell his supplies,” he said. Each village will be given 100 balut.
