Peace adviser turns coronavirus fighter

Presidential Peace Adviser Carlito Galvez Jr.

President Rodrigo Duterte has named Presidential Peace Adviser Carlito Galvez Jr. as the chief implementer of the government’s national policy on the new coronavirus.

Galvez’s appointment was contained in a memorandum dated March 24, sent by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea to the Inter-Agency Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF).

His appointment took effect immediately.

“As chief implementer, Secretary Galvez has been directed to ensure the strict compliance and adherence of everyone (public and private sector) to the guidelines and protocols issued by the Inter-Agency Task Force,” the memorandum said.

Public safety, welfare

“He was further tasked to protect and promote the safety and welfare of the public at all times, and ensure the efficient and expeditious distribution of government assistance to the public, with particular attention to our citizens who are in most need,” it said.

Medialdea confirmed Galvez’s appointment in a text message.

Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo also confirmed Galvez’s appointment.

“Yes. He was designated as chief implementer of the IATF against COVID-19,” Medialdea said.

Assistant Secretary Wilben Mayor, spokesperson for the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, confirmed receipt of the directive for Galvez.
