Mayor restricts border crossing on Lubang island in Occidental Mindoro

CITY OF CALAPAN –– The municipal government of Lubang in Occidental Mindoro has closed its borders as a preventive measure against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Mayor Michael Lim Orayani, in a video message, said he has ordered an “Intensified Community Quarantine,” which includes closing off the border between Lubang and Looc, the two towns on Lubang Island.

He made the order after two persons under investigation (PUIs) were reported in mainland Occidental Mindoro.

One of those reported was from San Jose town, an 84-year-old man who died on March 22, the same day he was brought to the hospital.

The cause of death was acute respiratory disease syndrome secondary to severe pneumonia.

Reports said the man had a travel history to Manila before coming to San Jose.

The other PUI was a 36-year-old man from Sablayan town who had no travel history. He was admitted to a local hospital since March 19 and continues to show improvements.

In Lubang, Orayani reiterated that PUMs and PUIs were prohibited from going out.
