DOH: Of 19,585 tested for COVID-19, 83% turned out negative

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) said Sunday that 83 percent of the 19,585 individuals they tested for the novel coronavirus disease have yielded negative results.

“Nais naming ipaalam na sa lahat ng tinetest for COVID-19, 83 percent ang nagreresulta ng negatibo,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a virtual presser.

(We want to inform everyone that from all of our tests, 83 percent showed negative results.)

Vergeire also said that as of April 5, all laboratories in the Philippines have tested 19,585 individuals for COVID-19.

Vergeire then reiterated that they are aiming to test 10,000 individuals per day by the end of April. But for now, laboratories have the capacity to test 900 to 1,200 individuals per day.

As of Sunday afternoon, the Philippines has 3,246 people infected with COVID-19, including 152 deaths and 64 recoveries.

The World Health Organization has declared COVID-19 a pandemic. Globally, the virus already infected more than 1,210, 430 people and killed more than 65,440 as of April 5. On the other hand, over 251,820 people have recovered so far from the disease.

COVID-19 is a respiratory illness caused by the novel coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2, which outbreak started in China’s Wuhan City in Hubei province in late 2019.
