DepEd mulls moving opening of classes to August

/ 04:34 AM April 22, 2020

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) is exploring the option of moving the opening of classes from June to August amid the continued spread of the new coronavirus disease, Education Secretary Leonor Briones said on Tuesday.

Briones said extensive consultations with government officials and education stakeholders yielded a strong preference for delaying the return of the country’s 27 million public school students to schools.

Classes are originally scheduled to open on June 1.

“The leaning is August for opening,” Briones said. DepEd is also preparing for the possibility of online classes, reducing class sizes or implementing shift.
