BuCor: 2 more inmates at Correctional positive for new virus

MANILA, Philippines — Two more inmates from the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) have tested positive for the new coronavirus that causes COVID-19, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) confirmed Friday.

In a statement, BuCor said the test results for the two inmates or persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were taken to the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) quarantine area or “Site Harry” where other PDLs found positive of the virus are currently undergoing treatment.

Site Harry is a walled compound with a 12-meter high perimeter wall that is away from the residential area and prison cells.

Aside from the infected CIW inmates, PDLs from NBP who came in contact with its first COVID-19 case from the medium-security compound are also undergoing quarantine at Site Harry.

But BuCor spokesman Col. Gabriel Chaclag explained that while the confirmed COVID-19 cases and those who came in contact with another infected inmate are at Site Harry, the possibility of interaction is zero.

“They are in separate buildings and there are barriers with locks and gates. There is no chance of interaction,” he said.

CIW has a capacity of 1,008 but currently houses 3,422 PDLs.
