Butuan City heat index hits 53ºC
MANILA, Philippines — Butuan City in the province of Agusan del Norte experienced a searing Wednesday afternoon as it recorded a heat index of up to 53ºC, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported.
The heat index — the temperature as felt by the human body — peaked at 2:00 p.m. in Butuan City, according to Pagasa.

High heat indexes were also felt in other areas of the country, with Ambulong in Tanauan City, and Sangley Point in Cavite City recording 51°C, while Clark, Pampanga, Maasin City, Science City of Muñoz, and Naia in Pasay City with 46 °C.
Meanwhile, a 42°C heat index was recorded at the Science Garden in Quezon City around 3:50 p.m.
Heat indexes of 41 to 54ºC are considered “dangerous” and pose health risks such as heat cramps and heat exhaustion, with a heatstroke probable, with continued physical activity.
