Muntinlupa lifts liquor ban; bans cash aid beneficiaries from buying liquor

MANILA, Philippines — The Muntinlupa City government has the lifted liquor ban in the city but has implemented strict guidelines such as the prohibition of selling alcohol to cash aid recipients during the general community quarantine (ECQ) and modified general community quarantine (MGCQ).

In a tweet on Wednesday, the local government announced that Muntinlupa City Mayor Jaime Fresnedi signed Ordinance No. 2020-100 which regulates the sale and consumption of liquor and other alcoholic beverages for the duration of the GCQ and MGCQ.”

Under the ordinance, the local government also prohibited individuals from receiving the government’s financial aid to buy alcoholic beverages to “ensure that government assistance is not wasted on alcohol.”

The Muntinlupa City government said it will mandate financial assistance recipients to sign an undertaking that they will refrain from consuming alcohol during GCQ and MGCQ.

The city government also banned selling alcoholic beverages to “minors and persons already intoxicated.”

Drinking of liquor should be within the private residence of citizens.

The city government also required establishments selling liquor to keep a logbook of individuals buying alcoholic beverages.

The record book must contain information namely, the full name of the buyer; exact address; contact details; date of purchase; and exact time of purchase.

With this, Muntinlupa encouraged the public to coordinate with the city government to report ordinance violators to barangays for investigation.
