With record-high 1,150 new cases, PH’s COVID-19 count tops 31,800
MANILA, Philippines — The country’s confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases jumped to 31,825 on Tuesday after the Department of Health (DOH) announced a record-high 1,150 new cases.
The 1,150 latest cases logged is the new highest single-day increase in new cases, beating May 29’s tally of 1,046.
Of the new cases recorded, 789 were “fresh” or those patients whose test results were released within the last three days while 361 cases were tagged as “late”.
Total death count now stands at 1,186 after nine more people succumbed to the respiratory illness.
Meanwhile, another 299 recoveries were reported, pushing to 8,442 the total number of COVID-19 survivors in the country. This was the 13th consecutive day that number of daily recoveries hit over 200.
Article continues after this advertisementDespite the months-long imposition of different community quarantine measures, hundreds of new coronavirus infections are still being reported by DOH daily.
Article continues after this advertisementThe continued surge in COVID-19 cases comes over three weeks after the government imposed less restrictive lockdown measures in the majority of areas in the country, including Metro Manila, the epicenter of the contagion.
Less restrictive coronavirus lockdowns will be in place until June 30 except for Cebu City which is placed the stringent under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and Talisay City which is now under modified ECQ due to their high transmission rate, and the increasing demand for critical care.
Globally, more than 470,000 have died from COVID-19 out of the over nine million people who have contracted the disease.
