CITY OF SAN FERNANDO –– A 16-room dormitory has been built for medical personnel of the Jose B. Lingad Memorial General Hospital (JBLMGH), which processes swab specimens to detect the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The Department of Public Works and Highways on Thursday, July 30, turned over the management of the facility to the JBLMGH, which hosts one of six molecular laboratories serving Central Luzon. Its laboratory was funded by the Asian Development Bank.

The JBLMGH also maintains isolation and treatment rooms for COVID-19 patients.

Located behind a new hospital building, the dormitory can accommodate 32 health workers. Each room is equipped with bunk beds, an air-conditioner, a water heater, and a toilet. It has a living room, dining area, laundry section, and kitchen.

Construction was overseen by the DPWH Task Force to Facilitate Augmentation of National and Local Health Facilities, according to a project brief.

The building is the government’s way of “showing support” to healthcare workers, said DPWH Undersecretary Emil Sadain, the task force head.
