More PNP personnel in La Union test positive for COVID-19

SAN FERNANDO CITY — The city recorded 12 new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Saturday, nine of them were personnel of the regional police office here.

City Mayor Alfredo Pablo Ortega said the regional police office has assured that all necessary actions were being done to prevent the spread of the virus.

Police Brig. Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr., Ilocos regional police director, had recently placed the entire police regional camp on total lockdown after three of its personnel tested positive for the COVID-19 on Sept. 3.

Ortega said the PNP, the provincial government of La Union, and the city government have been working together to address the rise of the virus cases involving police personnel.

The other new COVID-19 patients in the city include a 20-year-old woman from Barangay Santiago and a 49-year-old man who was a locally stranded individual from Quezon City.

Two other towns of La Union also recorded two new cases – one each in Bauang and Santol.

To date, La Union has a total of 45 active cases, or 18 percent of the total 241 confirmed cases.
