Eastern Samar COVID-19 aid: P2,000 for each of 13,000 households

TACLOBAN CITY—Over 13,000 households in Eastern Samar have received P2,000 in financial aid each from the provincial government to tide them over during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The provincial government, led by Gov. Ben Evardone, set aside P65 million for 33,000 beneficiaries in 22 towns and the city of Borongan.

The cash distribution started last July and is set to be completed by October.

Qualified to receive the cash aid were those who failed to receive or were not listed as recipients of the special amelioration program (SAP) of the national government.

SAP beneficiaries in the region received a cash assistance of P5,000 each.

Evardone appealed for understanding over the delay in the distribution of the financial aid, saying the provincial government had to first ensure that only deserving households got P2,000 each.

He ordered offices in the provincial government to fast track the process of determining which households would be qualified to get P2,000.
