PH’s COVID-19 case count now at 294,591

MANILA, Philippines — The country’s total number of COVID-19 cases reached 294,591 on Wednesday after the Department of Health (DOH) reported an additional 2,833 newly-reported infections.

The DOH count showed that this increase brought the number of patients with active coronavirus cases to 58,127, of which 86.5 percent have mild symptoms, 9.2 percent are asymptomatic, 1.3 percent experience severe symptoms, and 3.0 percent are in critical condition.

There are 765 new recoveries reported, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 231,373.  However, 44 deaths recorded on Wednesday bringing the death toll to 5,091.

The bulk of the new COVID-19 cases comes from the National Capital Region with 1,222, followed by Cavite (228), Negros Occidental (206), Batangas (143), and Bulacan (141).

The DOH also noted that 31 duplicate cases were removed from the total case count after validation of data sent by the testing laboratories.
