Nearly 6K cops contract COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 5,990 personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) as of Thursday have contracted the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
In an interview over state-run PTV’s Laging Handa Public Briefing, PNP spokesperson Police Col. Ysmael Yu said an additional 61 COVID-19 cases among policemen were recorded on Wednesday night.
Of the total cases, almost 20% or 1,189 are active.
Meanwhile, 75 new recoveries were recorded, bringing the total number to 4,784.
Deaths among police officers because of COVID-19 remain at 17.
According to the latest data from the Department of Health, there are 311,694 confirmed cases of COVID-19 nationwide, including 253,488 recoveries and 5,504 deaths.
